The growing community of private DIY Drone designers and manufacturers has inspired us to create a workshop series focusing on the simulation of drone design. The series is directed to makers and drone enthusiasts, who want to learn how to modify and optimize their own drone design. In this 3-module course, you will learn about aerodynamics, propeller design, structural modeling, and impact testing. Students who complete the video lectures, step-by-step exercises, and quizzes to 100% will receive a special SimScale Certificate of Completion which can be added to a resume or course profile on Linkedin.
Each session consists of:
- A 60-minute video lecture
- A step-by-step exercise to help you put what you have learned in the lecture directly into practice
Session 1: Aerodynamics & Propeller Design
In the first session, we will talk about to the fundamentals of aerodynamics and propeller design. You will learn how to predict the performance of a drone using fluid flow simulations.
Session 2: Structural Simulation
The second session introduces participants to structural simulations of assemblies which can be very challenging. We will also discuss strategies for lightweight design and how to apply them to your own models.
Session 3: Dynamic Analysis and Numerics
The third and last session is dedicated to the simulation of an impact landing. Simulating the impact of the drone for several velocities will help you understand the critical falling velocity of your design.
