Is there any cost to apply or participate in the fellowship?
Absolutely zero cost! The DIY Fellowship is 100% fully sponsored. You receive ₹1 lakh fellowship grant, ₹1 lakh course access, ₹50K hardware kit, and ₹15K/month paid internship—all at no cost to you.
What branches of engineering are eligible to apply?
We welcome students from Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics, and related technical disciplines. If you're passionate about EVs and meet the 70% academic criteria, you should apply!
How competitive is the selection process?
Highly competitive. We receive 1,000+ applications per cohort and select only 10 fellows every 6 months (100 annually total). The DET assessment and project submission help us identify the most talented and passionate candidates.
What kind of EV prototype do I need to build for project submission?
Any working electric mobility project that demonstrates your technical skills. Popular submissions include: e-bike conversions, custom BMS systems, motor controllers, charging circuits, or innovative EV components. Quality and documentation matter more than complexity.
Where does the 6-month paid internship take place?
Fellows work with universities and colleges across India helping them set up EV labs, develop curriculum, and train students. Locations vary based on institutional partnerships—could be anywhere from IIT Delhi to regional engineering colleges.
Can final year students apply?
Yes! Final year B.Tech/B.E. students are eligible and encouraged to apply. The fellowship and internship can run parallel to your final semester or begin immediately after graduation.
What happens after completing the fellowship?
Fellows join our lifetime alumni network and receive priority placement support with leading EV companies. Many fellows go on to leadership roles at Ola Electric, Ather Energy, Tata Motors, Mahindra Electric, and innovative EV startups. Some pursue higher studies or start their own ventures.
When are the application deadlines?
We run two cohorts annually: January intake (applications close December 15) and July intake (applications close June 15). Rolling admissions—we review applications as they come in, so apply early!
